Isolation

Saturday, October 22nd, 2005

ayun, this was the word i’ve been looking for to describe GMA. she is so isolated right now.

but i have to admit, she’s is really tough to take out. kapal muks na talaga, as if she doesn’t know why sunud-sunod ang mga demonstrations. hello? from E-VAT to CPR to what next? the Anti-Terror Bill?

if ever, we shouldn’t be surprised of her aggressive hold on her power. nandaya na rin siya, might as well take it all the way and defend her turf to death. besides, she has to be really extra tough so Uncle Sam won’t entertain thoughts of replacing her.

as the PDI editorial today says, power makes anyone isolated. being on top really is lonely, sooner than later you have to buy your way out of people, manipulate and scheme out things.

hehe parang survivor. makes me think she could have won it hands down, basta wag lang gagawin sa Mindanao or Eraplandia ang show, hehe. kapit-tuko talaga, well let’s see till next year.

you ain’t no survivor yet

sayang, di ako nakahabol sa martsa ng mga farmers and other rallyists kanina. nakarating na ako sa recto mga halos 1 pm, i left home at ten am, same time na paalis pa lang ang bulto sa ust. and i learned na they had to take an alternate route going through the underpass and around Isetann kasi, as expected, hinarang na ng mga minamahal nating kapulisan ang bukana ng morayta at daan papuntang liwasang bonifacio.

syempre, mega-run daw sila papuntang recto, at they caught the police by surprise, sayang talaga wala ako dun. hehe, as if pupunta ako sa harapan, yung laki ng katawan kong to? nakakalungkot lang na may mga nasaktan pa uli, pinagpapalo ang mga women’s na pumunta sa harap dahil mga babaeng pulis din ang pinangharap ng mga lalaking pulis na siyang may hawak ng mga truncheons.

hay, i can still hear sum comments ng iba bakit daw puro na lang rali. hello? the farmers from Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog marched for five days towards manila hindi para makigulo, pero para iparinig sa nagbibingi-bingiang gobyerno ung centuries-long demand nila for genuine land reform and farmers’ rights. Mali ba yon? C’mon tell me? u freaking sunaviches of Alex Magno?! mga nagfifiling-filingan na socially aware na still supporting a president who has not really proven if she’s innocent from rigging the 2004 elections, just because you want "industrial/economic peace".

Peace for what? for the foreign investors? ummm…do you know that they repatriate their profits leaving us with nothing, that making them pay taxes is only just for our national interest?

Going back to the Recto rally, i was so incensed to hear GMA on the radio saying na bakit nanggugulo pa ang mga raliyista ngayon eh most Filipinos just wanted to work. yes, you freaking liar, Filipinos just wanted to work, but how could they when you old sunovabitch still insist on denying their plea for a wage increase, when you old sunovabitch have the gall to impose E-VAT when we could have earned enough for our budget deficit just by stamping on smugglers (some of which may be your election funders), by re-imposing tariffs and by not paying odious debts at all. aren’t those hard to do?

GMA, you’re not a survivor yet and you will never be. because one day, the masses will further unite and bring you down. (and that goes for freak Uncle Sam too, you’re the reason why we are in a crisis and your local cohorts!)

it may be in our lifetime, but it will come…it will happen.

My take on Pinoy BB

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005

I should have posted this a month ago when Channel 2 launched the Pinoy version of the Big Brother reality show. by now, i assume almost everyone (or at least eight out of ten Pinoys) are hooked on this supposed "telenovela ng totoong buhay".

i was disappointed during the launching of the show, from the chosen cast to the household rules.

well first the rules, wala naman talaga akong comment since limang rules lang naman yung dapat sundin ng Dos para payagan silang mag-franchise ng show. di ko na maalala kung ano yun, pero yung isang rule na mejo nadisappoint ako, i don’t know kung Dos na lang ang nagdagdag yun or nasa ibang BB shows rin siya abroad, ay yung rule against "scheming" on fellow housemates. not that i support such acts pero i thought Pinoy BB would be similar to US BB na ala-Survivor - in other words, it would be a GAME of wits and survival. i expect a Pinoy BB winner who won on strategy and that careful balancing of being real and honest and being strategic and scheming.

pero nung nalaman ko na, ok, telenovela pala siya so may mga loveteams - er, ganun pala, ok siguro matitiis ko pa, except the loveteams. this stupid mariel rodriguez from the onset couldn’t talk of anything but the budding romance between JB and Say. not that its a bad thing, but Uma’s right, you shouldn’t fall in love in a show like that. i would like to see housemates who are willing to be under house arrest for 100 days because of the prize, not because gusto nilang makahanap ng gf and bf. maski yung reason na gusto nilang sumikat by appearing in the show is more reasonable to me than to find your "true love". C’MON, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A GAME. Where’s the challenges or individual competitions? Where’s the Head of Household? The Veto power? The alliances?

Ok,im really a Survivor fan, and forgive me if im imposing my view and my choice for a show that is only meant to hike the long-sagging primetime ratings ng Dos and of course to rake additional profits sa mga cellphone companies. but please, Pinoy BB is not supposed to be like QPids ok? sorry but im ready to smash the brains of anyone who watches Pinoy BB ONLY for the romances and the mushy-icky love teams na pinipilit mapakita ng Dos.

i understand that Pinoy BB can’t be the same as the US version since Filipinos, i think, are not yet ready to see their own kind in a game of lying, scheming and backstabbing. kaya ginawa na lang parang telenovela-type ang show, na palaging andun ang values ng cooperation, unity and kindness sa mga pinapagawang tasks ni Kuya (si direk Dyogi ba yun?) - maski na minsan parang nagpaplastikan na lang sila dun.

i mean, come to think of it, isn’t scheming, lying and backstabbing more reflective of REAL LIFE than being "good (on the outside)" to each other. i would prefer seeing housemates fighting for a lot of things, than two housemates schmoozing and exchanging vows of undying love.

and come to think of it, what should reflect Pinoy culture in the show? the inclusion of an AM-BOY like Sam?

and the cast, i almost forgot, is disappointing. i know for the first season at least, Dos needs to put up a cast that Pinoy would actually watch - like typical mestiza/mestizo, telegenic at the very least kind of housemates (yup, even US networks are the same remember Survivor Outback?)

but please, sana sa second season, mas representative naman ng mga Pinoy ang i-put up na cast. no more of mayayaman types coz they don’t need the prizes anyway, no more of the same bunch of people na mahilig mag-party, mahilig sa kakikayan, na walang understanding kung paano mabuhay ang ordinaryong Pilipino.

i mean, if Dos still wants the good-looking types, sana idiversify naman nila. i would want to see housemates from various sectors, like govt employees, mga struggling artists kunwari, even a lawyer na di gaano mayaman or a police officer, or a bum, or nursing student.basta no more models, no more sheltered creatures and pips na mula sa kilalang mga pamilya.

as for the results ng eviction, i totally agreed with the texters’ decision to evict Rico and JB. They don’t deserve to win since they don’t need the prizes anyway. In the future, id like to see Say go home (she seems nice but you don’t want someone like her winning it all) and Sam (he seems nice but you don’t want someone like him winning it all either, besides he’s not really that Pinoy pa and he’s another of those commercial models na should be left posing for TNC brands na lang), and probably Chx, Cass and Bob. Uma i like him to go much later coz the show still needs someone like him na talagang totoo. and ano ngayon kung bading siya, is that a basis para matanggal siya?

as for Racquel and Cass na nominated as of this week, i think Racquel needs to go coz its her third time already, though i would like to see someone like her win, Cass is a more interesting character, and I want her to stay longer than Say, Sam and Chx.
